Do you dream about finding a pair of perfectly-fitting jeans? Look no more, learn to sew them yourself with Sewing Superhero Charlotte Newland (BBC Sewing Bee Winner 2016) guiding you every step of the way.
Learn everything from trouser-fitting to inserting a zip-fly to top-stitching to installing jeans hardware.
Make yourself at home and spread out in our bright and beautiful sewing studio with your own workstation for the whole three days – no need to tidy away between sessions, hooray!
Relax in the Great Hall or Drawing Room after a long day of sewing and enjoy a wonderful home-cooked meal before retiring for an amazing night’s sleep in one of Moresby’s 5* guest rooms.
What is included:
- Sewing sessions led by expert Charlotte Newland to fit and make your jeans. (Max. 5 students so lots of 1-2-1 attention). Sewing sessions will be three full days.
- 3-night stay at Moresby Hall.
- A hearty breakfast each morning to set you up for the day ahead.
- Lunch each day to keep you going.
- Evening meals.
- Your own printed copy of the Jeans pattern* will be waiting for you in the studio.
- PDF of the pattern sent to you by email.
- Lots of laughs, sewing fun and learning in a beautiful stately home.
*We will be working with the Closet Core Ginger Jeans pattern or the Cashmerette Ames Jeans for this workshop, Charlotte will advise which will be best for you on arrival. A copy of your chosen pattern is included and will be waiting for you in the sewing studio.
You will need to bring your own sewing machine and the materials for your jeans including toile fabric and jeans hardware – a full list will be supplied on request or after booking. All other materials and tools will be provided, however, do feel free to bring your own sewing kit if you prefer. Sewing machines can be hired on request, please get in touch for more info.
Overlockers and a second sewing machine will be provided to help finish those seams and speed up the top stitching elements of your jeans.
Skill Level: This class is suitable for intermediate dressmakers who have sewn several garments previously.
Please Note: The focus of the sewing sessions will be on creating a pair of jeans that will fit you perfectly. You may not 100% finish your jeans in the sessions, depending on how quickly you sew. You will leave with a pattern that is customised to you which you can make over and over again, and all the knowledge to finish off at home.
Bring along a non-sewing buddy! Non-sewists tickets include everything except the sewing sessions, we can recommend adventures in the surrounding area for them whilst you are busy in the sewing studio.
Class size: There will be a maximim of 5 sewists so everyone get lots of fitting and 1-2-1 sewing time with Charlotte. Please note, this class is for students over 18 only.
About the Venue: Moresby Hall is a Grade I listed building, described by English Heritage “of special architectural and historic importance”. Located just outside the Georgian Harbour town of Whitehaven, Moresby Hall is steeped in history and retains many original features. You will be extremely comfortable in the 5 star gold award accommodation, which includes charging points for Tesla and plug in electric cars. The spacious Fletcher Room (named after the family who lived there for 250 years and even sheltered Mary Queen of Scots prior to her imprisonment at Carlisle) will be our light and well-equipped sewing studio for the duration of the retreat.
